“Building The Greatest Church Since Pentecost”
July 2022
The mission of our church is to make disciples. In the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20), Jesus clearly stated, “All power is given unto me in heaven and earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” The ESV translates verse 19 as “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
The mission of the church is to make disciples, that is to say, learners of Jesus Christ. Jesus commanded us to do this. Each generation of believers needs to reach and teach the next generation of Christians. More specifically, each Christian needs to reach and teach others to be faithful learners and followers of Jesus. Each one should reach one. At least one! We should be imitators of God as dear children, and we should be discipling others. You might call this God’s divine succession plan. In other words, we need people to take our place when we are gone.
The Bible is replete with instances of this principle. The original high priest, Aaron, literally gave his priestly garments to Eleazar, his son, who succeeded him. Moses trained Joshua, his replacement. Elijah mentored Elisha who took his place. Jesus left his apostles with the mission to carry on His work. Paul trained Timothy. Who are you training? Seriously, are you obeying Jesus by discipling at least one other person? Bro. Kyle Jones, Pastor
What a wonderful VBS we had this year! We had an average of 58 students each night except one, which had 81! Everyone had such a wonderful time and the message of Jesus Christ was preached nightly. Besides the blessings of the number of children, every age group in our church gave of their time and effort! Our teenagers did a fantastic job as helpers and made our jobs much easier. We also had several of our group who worked diligently each night to feed the children, teach classes, and help wherever needed. Several also helped Rhonda and Mary in decorating the buildings. Rhonda Butler and Mary Kennedy were our co-directors, and they did a super fantastic job!
Special thanks to Reba Deason, Edna Eastin, Rosephine Kennedy, Meda Taylor, Camille Barrett, Jesse Jones, Harlen Henegar, and Matty Jo Fox for their dedication and hard work throughout the week!
Our next Young at Heart meeting will be Tuesday, July 5, at Noon. Our guests will be Sheriff David Allison and his deputies. Bring your favorite dish and make plenty of it! Our officers look forward to the meal every year because "we have the best cooks around!!!!!!" Invite your friends- we'd love to have them!
